Proprietà Sperino Lessona 2018
The Proprietà Sperino Lessona is a majestic red wine made solely from the Nebbiolo grape. It is intense yet velvety, thanks to the soil in this zone that yields softer tannins in the grapes than those found in Nebbiolo from the Langhe region of Piemonte. At the winery the grapes are sorted while on the conveyor belt, then de-stemmed, gently pressed and then fed by gravity into the fermentation tank. Fermentation with natural yeasts took place in open topped wooden fermenters and the wine then remained 18 months sur lie. The wine aged in barrels and oval 15 hectolitre casks for 35 months before being bottled in September 2019. A period of further ageing took place in bottle before release. Deep ruby in colour with a beautiful nose typical of the area, this wine showcases aromas of red cherries, dried rose petals, rosemary and pine needles. On the palate, the wine has fresh acidity, silky tannins and succulent red and black fruit flavours. The finish is long with a touch of minerality.
